Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The phrase "تاسك أو متسك" is taken from al-Dhahabi's "al-Talkhis"; in its place the manuscripts have "تلتل". Closer to correct is what we have established from "al-Talkhis", and it agrees with the wording narrated by way of Shu'bah in some of the sources of takhrij, which have "ناسك" or "منسك" (with nun).
Grading: Its chain is, if Allah wills, "hasan".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Although no one other than Abu Ishaq ('Amr bin 'Abdullah al-Sabi'i) narrated from "Wahb bin Jabir", al-'Ijli, Yahya bin Ma'in and Ibn Hibban declared him trustworthy.
Reference / Source: Nu'aym bin Hammad narrated it in "al-Fitan" (1656), and al-Tabari (17/88), by way of Muhammad bin Ja'far; and Abu 'Amr al-Dani in "al-Sunan al-Waridah fi al-Fitan" (680) by way of 'Asim bin Hakim. Both of them narrate it from Shu'bah with this same chain. ('Asim's narration, however, is abridged.)
Details of the narration: The story in it of the offspring and the three nations was narrated by al-Tayalisi (2396) (and by way of him al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (14456)) from al-Mughirah bin Muslim al-Qasmali; by 'Abd al-Razzaq in "al-Tafsir" (2/29), Nu'aym bin Hammad (1642) and al-Tabari (17/89) by way of Ma'mar (and it is in "Jami' Ma'mar" (20810)); and by al-Tabari (17/88) by way of Sufyan al-Thawri. All three of them (al-Mughirah, Ma'mar, Sufyan) narrate it from Abu Ishaq as "mawquf".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In al-Tabarani's "al-Kabir", by way of al-Tayalisi, it occurs as "marfu'", which is a mistake by some of its narrators. It will come with the author at the end of a long report under number (8736) by way of Ma'mar from Abu Ishaq, as mawquf.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ziyad bin Khaythamah went against this in al-Tabarani's "al-Awsat" (8598): he narrated it from Abu Ishaq, from Wahb bin Jabir, from 'Abdullah bin 'Amr (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), thus making it "marfu'". This narration of his is "shadh", and al-Tabarani's shaykh in it, whose name is Muntasir bin Muhammad, is of unknown standing.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Zayd bin Abi Unaysah also went against this in Ibn Hibban (6828): he narrated it from Abu Ishaq, from 'Amr bin Maymun, from 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). This narration of his is also "shadh". Several narrators narrated the original hadith of Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) from Abu Ishaq without mentioning Gog and Magog (Ya'juj and Ma'juj) and the three nations, as is made clear in our work on "Sahih Ibn Hibban".
