It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood among us (to deliver a sermon), and standing in that place he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not leave out anything that would happen until the establishment of the Hour without mentioning it to us. Whoever remembered it remembered it, and whoever forgot it forgot it. These companions of mine also know this. Indeed, it happens that something I had forgotten comes about, and upon seeing it (take place) I recall it, just as a man recognises the face of a man who had been absent from him (when he appears again) upon seeing it.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it with this wording.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the manuscripts this word has been corrupted into "'Abdullah" (the non-diminutive form).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The manuscripts have "فيه", while the text established here is taken from al-Dhahabi's "al-Talkhis".
Grading: Its chain is sahih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Identification of the narrators: "Shayban" refers to Shayban bin 'Abd al-Rahman al-Nahwi, "al-A'mash" refers to Sulayman bin Mihran, "Shaqiq" refers to Ibn Salamah Abu Wa'il, and "Hudhayfah" refers to Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him). Reference / Source: Ahmad (38/23274, 23309, 23405), al-Bukhari (6604), Muslim (2891) (23), Abu Dawud (4240) and Ibn Hibban (6636) narrated it through two routes from al-A'mash with this same chain. Technical note / Defect ('illah): So Imam al-Hakim's treating it as an addition is an oversight on his part. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A text with the same meaning was narrated by Ahmad (23281) and Muslim (2891) (24) by way of 'Abdullah bin Yazid al-Khatmi, and by Abu Dawud (4243) by way of Qabisah bin Dhu'ayb, both of them from Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him). Note / Clarification: Something similar has already passed with the author under number (8661) by way of Abu Idris al-Khawlani, and under number (8664) by way of Zirr bin Hubaysh, both of them from Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him).
