Note / Clarification: The name is written like this here, whereas with the author it will come later at no. (8675), (8742) and (8832) as "Qanturah bin Karkari". Banu Qanturah means "the Turks".
Grading: This report is established as "sahih" from 'Abd Allah bin 'Amr bin al-'As, but the chain under discussion is "da'if" (weak) due to the weakness of Sa'id bin Bashir.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): He was contradicted in narrating it from Qatadah, since he made it a narration from 'Uqbah bin 'Amr bin Aws, and the name also came like this here in the narration of Abu al-Jamahir (Muhammad bin 'Uthman al-Tanukhi) from Sa'id bin Bashir. Whereas in the narration of al-Walid bin Muslim from Sa'id, reported in Nu'aym bin Hammad's "al-Fitan" (1896) and al-Mustaghfiri's "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (253), he named this narrator "'Uqbah bin Aws", and this is correct; and this 'Uqbah is "la ba'sa bihi" (acceptable).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): We return to the disagreement over Qatadah: the "mahfuz" (preserved, correct) form narrated from Qatadah by the trustworthy narrators is: from 'Abd Allah bin Buraydah, from Sulayman bin al-Rabi', from 'Abd Allah bin 'Amr. It was narrated like this by Nafi' and Sa'id bin Abi 'Arubah with Nu'aym (1906), by Hammam bin Yahya with Ibn Sa'd in "al-Tabaqat" (5/ 88), and by Hisham al-Dastuwa'i (with the author, coming later at 8742). In some of them it is written "Sulayman bin Rabi'ah", whereas the correct is "Sulayman bin al-Rabi'". No one narrated from him except 'Abd Allah bin Buraydah, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat". Imam al-Bukhari said in "al-Tarikh" (4/ 12): "Qatadah's hearing from Ibn Buraydah, and Ibn Buraydah's hearing from Sulayman, are not known."
Important point: This is what Imam al-Bukhari said, but with the author, later at no. (8832), via the route of Husayn bin Dhakwan from 'Abd Allah bin Buraydah with a "strong chain", there comes, within a long story, the explicit statement that Ibn Buraydah "heard" this report from Sulayman bin al-Rabi'; it contains content similar to the hadith of Sa'id bin Bashir from Qatadah.
Details of the narration: The meaning of this report was narrated by Muhammad bin Sirin from 'Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Bakrah, from 'Abd Allah bin 'Amr bin al-'As, that he said: "Banu Qanturah are about to expel you from the land of Iraq." 'Abd al-Rahman said: I asked: "Will they (the Muslims) then return?" He said: "That would be dearer to you; then they will return and they will have some ease of living there."
Grading: Its chain is "sahih"; Qatadah and Ayyub narrated it from Ibn Sirin, which will come with the author later at no. (8675) and (8676).
