Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This chain can possibly be graded hasan, if Allah wills, because of Abd al-A'la bin al-Hakam.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): For he is counted among the senior Tabi'un: al-Bukhari in his "Tarikh" 6/ 70, and others, affirmed that he heard from Hudhayfah, Ibn Mas'ud and Abu Musa; two thiqah narrators narrated from him, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat". As for Kharijah bin al-Salt, three people narrated from him, Ibn Hibban also mentioned him in "al-Thiqat", and al-Dhahabi said in "al-Kashif": His standing is truthfulness.
Important point: Although this report appears on the surface to be mawquf, his statement in it, "Allah and His Messenger spoke the truth", indicates that it is marfu', and it has also been reported as marfu', as in the previous hadith.
Note / Clarification: Husayn is "Ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami".
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi (393), and through his route by al-Bayhaqi 2/ 245, from Shu'bah, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ishaq bin Rahawayh in his "Musnad" (as in "al-Matalib al-Aliyah" (4497)) from al-Nadr bin Shumayl, and by al-Bayhaqi 2/ 245 via Abu Amir al-Aqadi, both of them from Shu'bah, in the same way.
Note / Clarification: It will come later with the author (al-Hakim) under number (8811) via Wahb bin Jarir, from Shu'bah.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ibn Abi Shaybah in his "Musannaf" 1/ 339 - 340 and his "Musnad" (377), by Ibn Rahawayh and Ahmad bin Mani' in their respective "Musnads" (as in "al-Matalib" (4497)), and by al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (9487), via several routes from Husayn bin Abd al-Rahman, in the same way; some of them abridge it.
Reference / Source: Al-Shafi'i narrated it in abridged form in "al-Umm" 8/ 487 - 488 from Hushaym, from Husayn, from Kharijah, in the same way.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): (But al-Shafi'i) dropped "Abd al-A'la bin al-Hakam" from its chain!
Reference / Source: Al-Shashi narrated in his "Musnad" (400) via Isra'il, from Mansur bin al-Mu'tamir, from Salim bin Abi al-Ja'd, from Masruq, from Abd Allah bin Mas'ud: "He came out from his family and I was with him, until he entered the mosque, and a man greeted him. He said: Allah and His Messenger spoke the truth. I said: What is that about? He said: Among the signs of the Hour are that a man will greet another man only on the basis of acquaintance, that a man will enter the mosque and cut across its width and length and leave without praying two rak'ahs in it, and that a young man will send an old man as a courier between the two horizons."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Its narrators are thiqah, but there is disagreement over Salim as to whether he narrated it from Ibn Mas'ud as connected or as mursal. See "Sharh Mushkil al-Athar" (1592).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A narration like that of Kharijah bin al-Salt from Ibn Mas'ud, which the author (al-Hakim) recorded, has been reported from al-Adda' bin Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) in al-Tabarani's "al-Kabir" 18/ (17).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): But al-Haythami said in "Majma' al-Zawa'id" 7/ 329: It contains narrators whom I do not know.
