It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Soon there will be a tribulation in which the one sitting will be better than the one standing, the one standing will be better than the one walking, the one walking will be better than the one running, the one running will be better than the one riding, and the one riding will be better than the one who spurs his mount on."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it. This has become a large chapter which the two Shaykhs did not record, whereas Imam Abu Dawud al-Sijistani (may Allah have mercy on him) recorded it in his "Sunan", which is sahih according to his condition, and Abu Dawud is one of the imams of this science.

Grading: Its chain is sahih. Note / Clarification: Abu Uthman al-Nahdi is "Abd al-Rahman bin Mall". Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Shaybah (15/7), al-Dawraqi in "Musnad Sa'd" (115), al-Bazzar (1223) and (1224), Abu Ya'la (789), Abu Tahir in "al-Mukhallisiyyat" (743), al-Diya' al-Maqdisi in "al-Ahadith al-Mukhtarah" 3/(1009) and Ibn Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" (27/22) recorded it through several routes from Dawud bin Abi Hind with this same chain. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Some narrators made it mawquf on Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas, but narrating it as marfu' is more correct and is the mahfuz (preserved) version. Reference / Source: Ahmad 3/(1446) recorded something similar by way of Husayn bin Abd al-Rahman, and Ahmad also at (1609) and al-Tirmidhi (2194) by way of Busr bin Sa'id; both of them narrate it from Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas as marfu'. Note / Clarification: "Al-sa'i": one who hurries on foot, and "al-mudi'": one who hurries while riding a mount.
Note / Clarification: These routes of Abu Dawud which the author (al-Hakim) has mentioned here are not found in the manuscripts and recensions of "Sunan Abi Dawud" that we have in our hands.
