(1). It is narrated from Sayyiduna Awf bin Malik al-Ashja'i (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) during the Battle of Tabuk while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was seated in a leather tent, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "O Awf, count six things before the Hour: my death; then the conquest of Bayt al-Maqdis; then a death (plague) that will spread among you as 'qu'as' (a neck-breaking fever) spreads among sheep; then wealth will become so abundant among you that a man will be given a hundred dinars and will still remain displeased (out of ingratitude); then a trial that will enter every house of the Arabs; then a truce between you and Banu al-Asfar (the Romans), but they will betray it and come to you under eighty (80) banners, with twelve thousand (soldiers) under each banner." Al-Walid bin Muslim said: We mentioned this hadith, in which "the conquest of Bayt al-Maqdis" was mentioned, to one of the Shaykhs of the people of Madinah, and that elder said: Sa'id al-Maqburi told me from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he used to narrate these six signs from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and instead of "the conquest of Bayt al-Maqdis" he would say "the flourishing of Bayt al-Maqdis."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it with this wording.

Note / Clarification: In manuscripts (Z) and (B) this word has been corrupted and written as "ka-'iqas" (with the 'ayn first), while the correction was made from manuscripts (K), (M) and the dictionaries. General principle: The word "al-qu'as" (which is the correct word) is a disease that afflicts livestock, from which fluid runs from their noses and they die suddenly.
Grading: Its chain is sahih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narrator "Abu Ayyub al-Dimashqi" is Sulayman bin 'Abd al-Rahman al-Tamimi, and "Abu Idris al-Khawlani" is 'A'idh Allah bin 'Abd Allah.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Bukhari (3176), Ibn Majah (4042) and Ibn Hibban (6675) narrated it through various routes from al-Walid bin Muslim, with this same chain.
Note / Clarification: For details see the hadith that passed earlier at number (6460).
Grading: There is weakness in this route (chain). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Its cause is that the narrator "al-Shaykh al-Madani" is unspecified (his name is not given).
Reference / Source: al-Bayhaqi narrated it together with the preceding narration in "al-Sunan" (9/ 223) through the route of Muhammad bin al-Muthanna, from al-Walid bin Muslim, except that he said in it: "Sa'id from Abu Hurayrah", without giving Sa'id's lineage. Hafiz Ibn Hajar mentioned in "Fath al-Bari" (9/ 514) that al-Isma'ili recorded it from al-Walid bin Muslim through "al-Shaykh al-Madani", and specified in it: "Sa'id bin al-Musayyab informed me, from Abu Hurayrah."
Note / Clarification: (Comment on al-Hakim's istidrak) If al-Hakim meant that this narration, with the addition (in the chain) of "al-Walid bin Muslim from al-Shaykh al-Madani", is not found with the two Shaykhs (al-Bukhari and Muslim), then he is correct; otherwise, the hadith of 'Awf bin Malik through the narration of Abu Idris al-Khawlani is in al-Bukhari, as mentioned. So adding it as a supplement to them from this angle is an oversight on al-Hakim's part.
