Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8489

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade cauterization, but we had ourselves cauterized (because of illness), and we found neither success nor benefit in it.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration on the condition of Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is sahih. Abu al-Tayyah is Yazid bin Humayd al-Duba'i, and Mutarrif is Ibn 'Abd Allah bin al-Shikhkhir.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Ahmad 33/ (2000) narrated it from 'Abd al-Samad bin 'Abd al-Warith and 'Affan bin Muslim, from Hammad bin Salamah, with this same chain.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Ahmad also narrated it (19989) from 'Affan, and Abu Dawud (3865) through the route of Musa bin Isma'il, both from Hammad bin Salamah, from Thabit, from Mutarrif, with the same chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Thus they made it a hadith of Thabit al-Bunani from Mutarrif, while Thabit and Abu al-Tayyah are both "thiqah" and "well known"; perhaps Hammad bin Salamah had this hadith from both of them. And Allah knows best.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Hammad bin Salamah's narration from Thabit was corroborated by "Hammad bin Zayd", as found in Ibn Sa'd's

Note / Clarification: This hadith has passed with the author (al-Hakim) at number (7681) through the route of al-Hasan al-Basri from 'Imran.
