It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that three people came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: A companion of ours is ill and cauterization (with fire) has been prescribed for him; shall we cauterize him? He (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent. They asked again, and he again remained silent. The third time he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you wish, cauterize him, and if you wish, apply hot stones to him."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Despite the abridgement in the author's (al-Hakim's) narration, its chain is "sahih", as we explained at the earlier narration number (7682). (Identification of the narrators): Abu Ishaq is 'Amr bin 'Abd Allah al-Sabi'i, Isra'il is his grandson, Abu al-Ahwas is 'Awf bin Malik al-Jushami, and 'Abd Allah is Ibn Mas'ud. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Ahmad 6/ (3701) narrated it from Waki', from Isra'il bin Yunus, with this same chain, with the wording: "ikwuhu wa-rdifuhu radfan" (cauterise him and apply heated stones to him). (7682). Note / Clarification: This hadith has passed at number (7682) through the route of Sufyan al-Thawri from Abu Ishaq.
