It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in a state of fever and pain, Jibril (peace be upon him) came to him and said: 'Bismillahi arqika min kulli shay'in yu'dhika, min kulli hasadin wa hasidin wa kulli 'aman, wasmullahi yashfik' (In the name of Allah I recite ruqyah over you, from everything that harms you, from every envy and envier, and from every evil eye; and may the name of Allah cure you).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: It is like this in manuscripts (Z) and (B), and in (Z) a mark of doubt (tadbib) has been placed over it. In "Talkhis al-Dhahabi" it is "wa kull ghamm", and the words "wa kull 'ama" are missing from manuscripts (K) and (M). Important point: In "Musnad Ahmad" it is "wa kull 'ayn", and it is the same in the other sources of takhrij, and this is correct.
Grading: The hadith is sahih, and this chain is "hasan" because of 'Abd al-Rahman bin Thabit bin Thawban. 37/ (22760). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is in "Musnad Ahmad" 37/ (22760). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Ibn Hibban (953) and (2968) narrated it through 'Uthman bin Abi Shaybah, from Zayd bin al-Hubab, with this same chain. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Ahmad (22761) and Ibn Majah (3527) narrated it through two routes from Ibn Thawban, with the same chain. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Ahmad (22759) and al-Nasa'i (10776) narrated it through the route of 'Asim al-Ahwal, from Salman (a man from the people of Syria), from Junadah bin Abi Umayyah, with the same chain. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The hadith of 'A'ishah and of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with them), found in Muslim (2185) and (2186), serves as a supporting report (shahid) for it; likewise the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), found in Musnad Ahmad 15/ (9757), Ibn Majah (3524) and elsewhere.
