Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: The hadith is sahih, and this chain is "jayyid" because of al-Husayn bin Hafs, and he has been corroborated. Sufyan is al-Thawri.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Ahmad 40/ (24345), al-Bukhari (5738), Muslim (2195) (56), Ibn Majah (3512), and al-Nasa'i (7494) narrated it through various routes from Sufyan al-Thawri, with this same chain.
Details of the narration: In his narration as found with Ahmad and Ibn Majah, Waki' paired "Mis'ar" with Sufyan (qarn).
Important point: al-Hakim's adding it as a supplement to the two Shaykhs (istidrak) is an oversight on his part.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It was narrated through the route of Mis'ar alone by Muslim (2195) (95) and Ibn Hibban (6103) and (6109).
