Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8464

It is narrated from al-Walid bin Abd al-Rahman bin Awf, from his father, from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not force your sick ones to eat and drink, for Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, feeds them and gives them drink."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration and all its narrators are from Madinah, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it. We also have, on this topic, the report of Imam Malik from Nafi', in narrating which from him Muhammad bin al-Walid al-Yashkuri is alone.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the manuscripts this is corrupted into "al-Thaqafi". "Al-Nabaqi" is a nisbah to his grandfather; he is in fact "Muhammad bin al-Ala' bin al-Husayn bin Abdullah bin Abi Nabqah al-Muttalibi", as Ibn Makula mentioned him in
Reference / Source: "al-Ikmal" 7/ 332, and in Ibn Hajar's "al-Isabah" 7/ 410, in the section on kunyahs, there is a biography of "Abu Nabqah" in which this grandson of his is mentioned.

Grading: God the Exalted willing, it is "hasan li-ghayrihi", but this chain is da'if because the condition of Muhammad bin al-Ala' al-Nabaqi and his maternal uncle al-Walid is unknown. (Identifying the narrator): al-Walid is "al-Walid bin Ibrahim bin Abd al-Rahman bin Awf", and here he is attributed to his grandfather.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Al-Tabarani recorded it in "al-Awsat" (9093) - and through his route Ibn Hajar in "Nata'ij al-Afkar" 4/ 240 - and Abu Nu'aym in "al-Tibb al-Nabawi" (709) and "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (4576), and al-Rafi'i in "al-Tadwin fi Akhbar Qazwin" 3/ 356-357, through various routes from Ibrahim bin al-Mundhir, with this chain.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Al-Bazzar (1010) recorded it through two routes from Muhammad bin al-Ala'.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Haythami, in
Reference / Source: "Majma' al-Zawa'id" 5/ 86, after attributing it to al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani, said: In it is al-Walid bin Abd al-Rahman bin Awf; I do not know him, nor the one who narrated from him, and the rest of its narrators are thiqah.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic the narration of Uqbah bin Amir has already passed with the author at number (1312); see the rest of its supporting reports there.

Note / Clarification: His statement "رواته كلهم مدنيون" (all its narrators are Madinans) does not occur in manuscripts (K) and (M).

Technical note / Defect ('illah): Muhammad bin al-Walid al-Yashkuri is attributed here to his grandfather; he is "Muhammad bin Umar bin al-Walid". Ibn Hibban cited this report of his from Malik in his biography in
Reference / Source: "al-Majruhin" 2/ 292 and said: This shaykh narrates from Malik what is not part of his hadith; it is not permissible to use him as proof, etc. The takhrij of this hadith of Ibn Umar and the discussion of it have already passed under the hadith of Uqbah bin Amir.
