أخبرنا أبو عبد الله الصَّفّار، حَدَّثَنَا أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى القاضي، حَدَّثَنَا أبو نُعيم وابن كَثير، قالا: حَدَّثَنَا سفيان، عن ابن خُثَيم، عن سعيد بن جُبَير، عن ابن عباس قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "إنَّ خيرَ أكحالِكم الإِثْمِدُ، فإنه يَجلُو البصرَ ويُنبِتُ الشَّعر" (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best of all your kohls is ithmid, for it brightens the eyesight and makes the eyelashes grow."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(1) صحيح لغيره، وهذا إسناد قوي من أجل ابن خثيم: وهو عبد الله بن عثمان بن خثيم. أبو نعيم: هو الفضل بن دُكين، وابن كثير: هو محمد العبدي، وسفيان: هو الثوري.
Grading: This hadith is "sahih li-ghayrihi", and this chain is "strong" (qawi) because of Ibn Khuthaym (who is Abdullah bin Uthman bin Khuthaym). (Identifying the narrators): Abu Nu'aym is al-Fadl bin Dukayn, Ibn Kathir is Muhammad al-Abdi, and Sufyan is al-Thawri.
وأخرجه أحمد 3/ (2047) و 4 / (2479) و 5 / (3426)، وابن ماجه (3497)، وابن حبان (6072) من طرق عن سفيان الثوري، بهذا الإسناد - وبعضهم يذكر فيه فضل الثياب البيض، كرواية يحيى بن سليم عن ابن خثيم المتقدمة عند المصنّف برقم (7565).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Ahmad 3/ (2047), 4/ (2479) and 5/ (3426), Ibn Majah (3497) and Ibn Hibban (6072) recorded it through various routes from Sufyan al-Thawri, with this chain -
Note / Clarification: and some of them mention in it the virtue of white clothes, as in the narration of Yahya bin Sulaym from Ibn Khuthaym that passed with the author at number (7565).
