It is narrated from Sayyidah Asma' bint Umays (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked me: "What do you use as a laxative?" I said: "Shubrum." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is very hot and harmful." She said: Then I said: "I have used sana (senna)." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If there were a cure from death in anything, it would be in sana."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In our manuscripts "Ja'far" is corrupted into "Hafs", although in several places with the author it occurs with the correct name. And this Yahya bin Ja'far is in fact "Yahya bin Abi Talib"; with the author his name often appears spelled out like this.

Note / Clarification: Manuscripts (Z) and (B) have "Abu Bakr bin Ubaydullah", which is an error. Mentioning "Ubaydullah" here is also wrong, because Abu Bakr al-Hanafi's name is actually "Abd al-Kabir" and the hadith is his; as for "Ubaydullah", he is his (Abd al-Kabir's) brother, and his kunyah is Abu Ali.

Grading: Its chain is da'if, as explained earlier at number (7629).
