It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! My brother has a complaint in his stomach." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Give him honey to drink." He came back and said: "I gave him honey to drink, but it has only increased his diarrhoea." The third or fourth time, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah has spoken the truth, and your brother's stomach has lied." So he went and gave him honey to drink, and he recovered.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
Grading: Its chain is sahih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Yahya is Ibn Sa'id al-Qattan, and Abu al-Mutawakkil is Ali bin Dawud al-Naji. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Al-Nasa'i (6672) and (7517) recorded it via Amr bin Ali, from Yahya al-Qattan, with this chain. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Ahmad 17/ (11146) and 18/ (11871) and (11872), al-Bukhari (5716), Muslim (2217), al-Tirmidhi (2082) and al-Nasa'i (7518) recorded it through various routes from Shu'bah. Important point: So al-Hakim's including it as an addition (istidrak, in al-Mustadrak) is an oversight on his part. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Al-Bukhari (5684) and Muslim (2217) recorded it via Sa'id bin Abi Arubah, from Qatadah. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Shayban al-Nahwi, in Ahmad 17/ (11147) and al-Nasa'i (6673), went against this and narrated it from Qatadah, from Abu al-Siddiq al-Naji (who is Bakr bin Amr), from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, Important point: whereas the preserved (mahfuz) version is "Abu Bakr al-Naji", not "Abu al-Siddiq".
