It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) met Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked: O Abu al-Hasan, a person sees dreams, some of which are true and some false; what is the reality of this? He replied: Yes, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "There is no man or woman who sleeps and whose sleep becomes deep but that his soul is raised towards the Throne. The soul that reaches the Throne (before waking), its dream is true; and the soul that wakes before reaching the Throne, its dream is false."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (2) Its chain is extremely weak. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abd al-Rahman bin Maghra' is alone in narrating it; he is among the truthful people, but there is weakness in him. Abu Ahmad al-Hakim said: he narrated hadiths in which he was not corroborated. Azhar bin Abd Allah was given a biography by al-Uqayli in "al-Du'afa'" (1/311), who said: his hadith from Muhammad bin Ajlan is not preserved (ghayr mahfuz). Then he cited a part of this hadith. The hadith is longer than what al-Hakim mentioned here. Al-Hakim's shaykh, although weak, is corroborated (mutaba'). Al-Dhahabi said in "al-Talkhis": this hadith is munkar, the author did not declare it sahih, and it seems the defect comes from Azhar.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani narrated this hadith at length in "al-Mu'jam al-Awsat" (5220) via Muhammad bin Abd Allah al-Tarsusi, from Ibn Maghra', with this same chain. Grading: He said: it is narrated only with this chain, and Ibn Maghra' is alone in narrating it.
