It is narrated from Abu Salamah that Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) held the stirrup of the mount of Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him). Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: O cousin of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Move aside. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "This is how we treat (with respect) our elders and our scholars."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: The report is sahih. There is no harm in the narrators of this chain (la ba'sa bihim), except that it is mursal, since Abu Salamah (Ibn 'Abd al-Rahman) did not meet Zayd bin Thabit, as explained at its repeated occurrence, no. (5895). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Muhammad bin 'Amr: he is Ibn 'Alqamah al-Laythi; and al-Ansari: he is Muhammad bin 'Abd Allah bin al-Muthanna.
