It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What connection do I have with the world? The likeness of me and the world is only that of a rider who took a midday rest (qaylulah) under the shade of a tree on a summer day, then went on from there and left it behind."

Grading: Its chain is sahih, Technical note / Defect ('illah): and al-Mas'udi (a narrator in the chain) refers to "'Abd al-Rahman bin 'Abd Allah bin 'Utbah bin 'Abd Allah bin Mas'ud"; the narration of Ja'far bin 'Awn from him is from before his (memory) became confused (ikhtilat), (so it is acceptable). Ibrahim refers to "Ibrahim bin Yazid bin Qays al-Nakha'i". Reference / Source: Ahmad (6/3709 and 7/4208), Ibn Majah (4109) and al-Tirmidhi (2377) narrated it through various routes from al-Mas'udi, with this same chain, Grading: and Imam al-Tirmidhi said: This hadith is "hasan sahih".
