إِذَا شَقَّ إِيفَاءُ النَّذْرِ عَلَى رَجُلٍ فَلْيُكَفِّرْ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ
If fulfilling a vow becomes difficult for a man, let him expiate as for an oath

أخبرَناه الحسن بن حَليم (1) المروَزي، حدثنا أبو المُوجِّه، حدثنا الحُسين بن حُرَيث، حدثنا الفضل بن موسى، عن شَريك، عن أبي إسحاق في الرجل يَحلِفُ بالمشي فيَعجِزُ فيركبُ، قال: قال ابن عباس: يحُجُّ مِن قابلٍ، فيركبُ ما مَشَي، ويمشي ما رَكِب (2).

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said, concerning a man who vows to walk but becomes unable and rides: He should perform Hajj again the following year, and (by way of making up for it) walk the part of the route he had ridden last time, and ride where he had walked.

Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts the word "Hākim" has been distorted into "Hakīm".
(2) خبر صحيح، وأبو إسحاق - وهو عمرو بن عبد الله السبيعي - لم يسمع من ابن عباس، لكن صحَّ هذا الخبر من وجه آخر.
Grading: This narration is "sahih".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Although Abu Ishaq al-Sabi'i ('Amr bin 'Abd Allah) did not hear from Ibn 'Abbas, this narration is established as sahih through another route.
فقد أخرجه عبد الرزاق (15865)، وابن أبي شيبة (12551 و 13754 - عوامة)، وأبو بكر الشافعي في "الغيلانيات" (345)، والبيهقي 10/ 81 من طريق إسماعيل بن أبي خالد، والفاكهي في "أخبار مكة" (725) من طريق عاصم بن سليمان الأحول، كلاهما عن عامر الشعبي، عن ابن عباس. وزادوا - إلَّا الفاكهي -: ينحر بدنة.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by 'Abd al-Razzaq (15865), Ibn Abi Shaybah (12551, 13754, ed. 'Awwamah), Abu Bakr al-Shafi'i (345) and al-Bayhaqi (10/81) through Isma'il bin Abi Khalid, and by al-Fakihi in "Akhbar Makkah" (725) through 'Asim bin Sulayman al-Ahwal; both of them narrate it with the chain 'Amir al-Sha'bi from Ibn 'Abbas.
Details of the narration: All the narrators except al-Fakihi added the words "yanharu badanatan" (let him slaughter a camel).
