حدثنا أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا بحر بن نصر بن سابق الخَوْلاني، حدثنا عبد الله بن وَهْب، حدثنا يحيى بن عبد الله بن سالم وسعيد بن عبد الرحمن، عن هشام بن عُرْوة، عن عبَّاد بن حمزة، عن عائشة أنها قالت: يا رسولَ الله، ألا تُكنيني؟ قال: "اكتَني بابنكِ عبد الله بن الزُّبير". فكانت تُكْنَى أُمّ عبد الله (2).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Will I not have a kunyah? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take your kunyah from your (nephew) Abdullah bin al-Zubayr." So her kunyah became "Umm Abdullah".
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(2) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد رجاله ثقات، لكن اختلف فيه على هشام بن عروة، فرواه عنه جمع كرواية المصنف، وهو ما رجّحه الدارقطني في "العلل" (3821)، ورواه جمع آخر أقلُّ عددًا عنه عن عروة بن الزبير عن عائشة. وكيفما دار فهو يدور على ثقة. وانظر تفصيل ذلك في تحقيقنا لـ "مسند أحمد" عند الرواية (24619).
Grading: This hadith is sahih and all the narrators of this chain are thiqah (trustworthy); however, there was a difference over Hisham bin 'Urwah in it. One group narrated it like the author's (al-Hakim's) narration, and this is what Imam al-Daraqutni preferred in "al-'Ilal" (3821), while another, smaller group narrated it from Hisham, from his father 'Urwah bin al-Zubayr, from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her). وأشار الدارقطني في "العلل" إلى أنَّ رواية عبد الله بن وهب عن يحيى بن عبد الله وسعيد بن عبد الرحمن عن هشام بن عروة، فيها بين هشام وعباد عروةُ والد هشام، وليس كما رواه المصنِّف بدون عروة، فالله تعالى أعلم.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam al-Daraqutni indicated in "al-'Ilal" that in the narration of 'Abdullah bin Wahb from Yahya bin 'Abdullah and Sa'id bin 'Abd al-Rahman, from Hisham bin 'Urwah, the link of "'Urwah" (Hisham's father) is present between Hisham and 'Abbad, whereas the author's narration does not mention 'Urwah. And Allah the Exalted knows best.
سعيد بن عبد الرحمن: هو ابن عبد الله بن جميل الجُمحي.
Note / Clarification: Sa'id bin 'Abd al-Rahman refers to Ibn 'Abdullah bin Jamil al-Jumahi.
وأخرجه أحمد 41 / (24619) من طريق حفص بن غياث عن هشام بن عروة، عن عباد بن حمزة به.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it in 41 / (24619) by way of Hafs bin Ghiyath, from Hisham bin 'Urwah, from 'Abbad bin Hamzah, with this chain.

Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad 42 / (25531, 25780) and Ibn Majah (3739) narrated it by way of Waki' bin al-Jarrah from Hisham bin 'Urwah, with the link of a man from the family of al-Zubayr who reports it from 'A'ishah. In Ibn Majah's narration the wording is "Hisham from a mawla of al-Zubayr".
