It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that whenever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke, he would repeat it three times so that it would be (well) understood.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it (in this book).

Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts, due to distortion, "'Abd al-'Aziz" has been mistakenly written here.
Grading: This chain is "hasan" because of 'Abd Allah bin al-Muthanna (bin 'Abd Allah bin Anas). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Here Abu Hatim refers to Imam Muhammad bin Idris al-Razi, and Thumamah refers to Thumamah bin 'Abd Allah bin Anas bin Malik (grandson of the famous Companion). Grading: Sahih. Reference / Source: It was narrated by Imam Ahmad (20/ 13221) and (21/ 13308), Imam al-Bukhari (94, 95, 6244) and Imam al-Tirmidhi (2723, 3640) through various routes with the chain of 'Abd Allah bin al-Muthanna bin 'Abd Allah bin Anas. Note / Clarification: In the first narration of Imam Ahmad, and in the first narrations of Imam al-Bukhari and Imam al-Tirmidhi, there is this addition: "And when he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave greetings, he would give greetings three times." Whereas in the second narration of Imam Ahmad, "isti'dhan" (seeking permission) three times is mentioned instead of "greeting". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam al-Hakim's bringing this hadith into his book (al-Mustadrak) is an oversight and forgetfulness on his part (because it was already present in al-Bukhari).
