It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Some people will wish (on the Day of Resurrection) that they had committed many more bad deeds." The Companions asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), why will that be? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They are the people whose bad deeds Allah will have changed into good deeds."
Its chain of narration is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Most of the narrators of the chain are thiqah. Technical note / Defect ('illah): All the narrators are thiqah except Kathir bin Ubayd al-Qurashi (the father of Sa'id Abu al-Anbas); a group narrated from Kathir and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat", but for a narrator like him to be alone (narrating it by himself) with such a narration among the companions of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) does not seem acceptable. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: This narration is also narrated from Abu al-Anbas as "mawquf". Al-Tha'labi narrated it (Tafsir 7/ 150) via Muhammad bin Abd al-Aziz, from al-Fadl bin Musa al-Sinani, with this same chain. Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Hatim (Tafsir 8/ 2733), via Sulayman bin Musa al-Zuhri, reported the saying of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): On the Day of Resurrection Allah will bring people who will think that they have many sins. It was asked: Who are they? He said: Those whose sins Allah will change into good deeds. General principle: According to the narration of Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) in Sahih Muslim (190), the changing of sins into good deeds will be after punishment in Hell, whereas according to Surat al-Furqan (verse 70) this change is for those who repent and believe. Since repentance takes place in this world and not in the Hereafter, the changing of sins will occur in these two situations (repentance in this world, or after punishment in the Hereafter).
