It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about the humps of camels and the fat tails of sheep (which used to be cut off while the animals were alive), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever is cut from a living (creature) is carrion."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), and they did not record it.

Grading: This hadith is "hasan" on the basis of its combined routes.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Although the narrators of this chain are thiqah, there is a difference on Sulayman bin Bilal as to whether this narration is connected (wasl) or mursal. 'Abd al-'Aziz al-Uwaysi narrated it as connected (mawsul), which is found only with the author (al-Hakim), whereas 'Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi and Yahya bin Hassan contradicted him and narrated it from Zayd bin Aslam as "mursal". A narration of Yahya bin Hassan has passed earlier as connected (with the author) under hadith number (7328), but with the others who reported it, it is mursal. Imam al-Daraqutni preferred in "al-'Ilal" that it is mursal.
Reference / Source: The details and takhrij of these routes have already passed under the previous narration.
