Amr bin Shu'ayb narrates from his father, from his grandfather (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the 'aqiqah for Sayyiduna Hasan and Sayyiduna Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them both), for each of them with two rams that were alike and equal.

Explanation & Benefits

Grading: This hadith is "sahih li-ghayrihi". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Sawwar Abu Hamzah (Ibn Dawud al-Muzani) is alone among the students of 'Amr bin Shu'ayb in narrating these words, and we have not found these words anywhere other than with the author (al-Hakim). Sawwar is not that reliable (thiqah). 'Abd Allah bin 'Amir al-Aslami narrated it from 'Amr bin Shu'ayb with these words: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the 'aqiqah with two goats for a boy and one goat for a girl." Although 'Abd Allah al-Aslami has some weakness, Dawud bin Qays corroborated him, as will come in the next narration; however, the correct view is that it is a "saying" of his (peace and blessings be upon him), not an "action", as will be made clear later.
