Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7779

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every child is held in pledge for his 'aqiqah. He should be named on the seventh day and his head should be shaved."

Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is sahih, and within corroborating chains and supporting reports (mutaba'at and shawahid) this chain is at the level of "hasan" because of Matar al-Warraq.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Bazzar (4595) and Imam al-Tabarani (6931) narrated it by way of 'Umar bin Muhammad bin al-Hasan, from his father Muhammad, from Ibrahim bin Tahman, with this same chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The name of 'Umar's father, "Muhammad", has dropped out of the printed edition of al-Tabarani. Imam al-Bazzar says that, to our knowledge, no one other than Ibrahim bin Tahman narrated it from Matar al-Warraq.
