It is narrated from Qays bin al-Sakan al-Asadi that he said: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) came in to his wife and saw on her an amulet for humrah (a disease), so he cut it off very forcefully and then said: "The family of Abdullah is free of any need for shirk." And he said: "Among the things we memorised from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is that ruqyahs, amulets and tiwalah are part of shirk."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this name is wrongly written (corrupted) as "Abd Allah".
Grading: This narration is "sahih" as mawquf on Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is no harm in its narrators, but there is disagreement over it on the part of al-Minhal bin Amr, the details of which will come below. Reference / Source: It was recorded by al-Tabarani in "al-Mu'jam al-Awsat" (1442) via Uthman bin Umar, from Isra'il bin Yunus, with this chain. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Isra'il Isma'il bin Khalifah al-Mula'i contradicted Isra'il bin Yunus (in al-Tabarani's al-Kabir 8862) and narrated it via al-Minhal from Abu Ubaydah bin Abd Allah as "mawquf", without mention of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Important point: There is disagreement about whether Abu Ubaydah heard from his father (Ibn Mas'ud), and the preponderant view is that his hearing is not established. Reference / Source: Similarly, Abd al-Rahman bin Abd Allah al-Mas'udi also narrated it as mawquf in al-Tabarani (8863). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Mas'udi suffered from ikhtilat (deterioration of memory) at the end of his life. Reference / Source: It was recorded by Abu Ubayd in "Gharib al-Hadith" (4/ 50) via Ibrahim al-Nakha'i as mawquf. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Although the narrators are thiqah, there is a break between Ibrahim and Ibn Mas'ud; the intermediary between them is "Abu Ubaydah", as is clear from the narrations of al-Khallal (al-Sunnah 1481) and Ibn Battah (al-Ibanah 2/ 742 - 743). Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ma'mar in his "Jami'" (20343), and via him by al-Tabarani (8861). Technical note / Defect ('illah): In it Ma'mar was unsure whether it is from Ziyad bin Abi Maryam or from Abu Ubaydah, and he narrated it as mawquf.
