It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best of your dates is the 'barni'; it drives out disease and there is no disease (harm) in it."

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Important point: Manuscript (S) has the word "tamratukum" (your date).

Grading: Its chain is da'if (weak).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narrator Sa'id bin Suwayd was mentioned by al-Bukhari in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" 3/ 477 and by Ibn Abi Hatim in "al-Jarh wa al-Ta'dil" 4/ 29-30, but they recorded no criticism or praise of him, nor did they give his nisbah; however, with al-Tabarani his nisbah is given as "al-Ma'wali". Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat" 8/ 262, but there is "jahalah" (unknown status) in this narrator. He was inconsistent (idtirab) in the name of his shaykh: sometimes he called him "Khalid bin Rabah" (as here with the author), sometimes "Khalid bin Ziyad, sahib al-Sabiri" (as with al-Tabarani, and al-Mizzi relied on this in the "Tahdhib" 8/ 65), and sometimes simply "Ziyad". Both narrators named Khalid are "saduq" (truthful), but we have not been able to identify the narrator named Ziyad.
Reference / Source: Abu Nu'aym recorded it in "al-Tibb al-Nabawi" (823) by way of Ali bin Muhammad, from Zayd bin al-Hubab, from Sa'id bin Suwayd, with this same chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In its chain an error and an omission (saqt, part of it dropping out) have occurred.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani recorded it in "al-Mu'jam al-Awsat" (7406) by way of Abd al-Quddus bin Muhammad, from Sa'id bin Suwayd al-Ma'wali, from Khalid bin Ziyad sahib al-Sabiri, from Abu al-Siddiq al-Naji, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri.
Details of the narration: Al-Tabarani says that this hadith is narrated from Abu Sa'id only with this chain, and Abd al-Quddus is alone in narrating it.
