It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took medicine through the nose (ista'ata, that is, he used su'ut, nasal medicine).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.
Grading: Its chain is "sahih". Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narrator al-Rabi' bin Sulayman refers to "al-Muradi". Reference / Source: Abu Dawud recorded it (3867) by way of Ahmad bin Ishaq al-Hadrami, from Wuhayb, with this same chain. Details of the narration: This narration will come with the author (al-Hakim) by way of Wuhayb under number (8442), in which there is the additional mention of cupping (hijamah). Its takhrij will come there, and his including it as a supplement (istidrak) to the "Sahihayn" is merely an error, because this narration is already in the "Sahihayn" (al-Bukhari and Muslim), as will be detailed there. Note / Clarification: His (peace and blessings be upon him) words "ista'ata" (take snuff): this means putting into the nose a medicine by which sneezing is induced.
