حدثنا علي بن حَمْشاذَ العدل، حدثنا إبراهيم بن الحُسين (2) الهَمَذاني وهشام بن علي السِّيرافي، قالا: حدثنا عبد الله بن رَجَاء، حدثنا همَّام بن يحيى، عن أبي جَمْرة الضُّبعي، قال: كنتُ أجلِسُ إلى ابن عباس بمكةَ، ففَقَدني أيامًا، فلمَّا جئتُ قال: ما حَبَسَك؟ قال: قلت: حُمِمتُ، فقال: ابرُدْها عنك بماء زمزم [فإنَّ رسول الله ﷺ قال: "الحُمَّى مِن فَيْح جهنَّمَ، فَابْرُدُوها بماءِ زمزمَ] (3) " (4).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين ولم يُخرجاه بهذه السِّياقة!

It is narrated from Abu Jamrah al-Dubai; he said: I used to sit in the gathering of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) in Makkah. Then I was absent for a few days, and when I came back he asked: What kept you away? I said: I had a fever. He said: Cool it with the water of Zamzam, for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Fever is from the intense heat of Hell, so cool it with the water of Zamzam."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it with this wording.

Note / Clarification: In the handwritten manuscripts this name is corrupted to "al-Hasan".
(3) ما بين المعقوفين زيادة من تلخيص الذهبي، ومن الرواية الآتية عند المصنف برقم (8432).
Note / Clarification: The text between the brackets is an addition taken from "Talkhis al-Dhahabi" and from the author's (al-Hakim's) narration coming later under number (8432).
(4) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد قوي من أجل عبد الله بن رجاء -وهو ابن عمر الغُدَاني- وقد توبع أبو جمرة الضُّبعي: هو نصر بن عِمران. وأخرجه البخاري (3261) من طريق أبي عامر العقدي عن همام بن يحيى، بهذا الإسناد. وفيه: "الحمى من فيح جهنم فابردوها بالماء" أو قال: "بماء زمزم"؛ شك همام. فاستدراك الحاكم له ذهولٌ منه.
Grading: This hadith is sahih, and this chain is strong because of Abd Allah bin Raja', who is Ibn Umar al-Ghudani (and he has been corroborated). Abu Jamrah al-Dubai refers to Nasr bin Imran.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Bukhari (3261) recorded it by way of Abu Amir al-Aqadi, from Hammam bin Yahya, with this same chain. Its wording there is: "Fever is from the heat of Hell, so cool it with water," or he said: "with Zamzam water" (Hammam was in doubt). So al-Hakim's including it in the Mustadrak is an oversight on his part.
