It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When one of you has a fever, let him sprinkle cold water (over his body) at the time of suhur (before dawn) for three nights."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it; however, both of them agreed upon the chains in which it is stated that "Fever is from the intense heat of Hell, so cool it with water."

Hadith Takhrij«
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its narrators are thiqah (trustworthy) and the chain appears on the surface to be sahih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): However, Abu Hatim criticised it in "al-Ilal" (2535) and said: "Musa bin Isma'il and others narrated it from Hammad bin Salamah, from Humayd, from al-Hasan, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (as mursal), and that is more likely." Abu Zur'ah said: "This (connected version) is a mistake," and he confirmed what Abu Hatim said. We have not found this mursal narration of al-Hasan with anyone else; however, al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar declared its chain strong in "al-Fath". (8430). Reference / Source: Al-Nasa'i (7566) recorded it by way of Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Hani', from Ubayd Allah bin Muhammad Ibn A'ishah, with this same chain. Ibn A'ishah was corroborated by Rawh bin Ubadah in Abu Ya'la (3794) and others. It will come again by way of Ibn A'ishah under number (8430). Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani recorded it in "al-Awsat" (5174) by way of Muhammad bin al-Husayn al-Anmati, from Ubayd Allah Ibn A'ishah, from Hammad bin Salamah, from Thabit, from Anas. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Here Thabit al-Bunani has been mentioned in place of Humayd al-Tawil. Al-Tabarani said: "No one narrated it from Hammad, from Thabit, from Anas except Ibn A'ishah, while the (other) students of Hammad narrate it from Humayd, from al-Hasan." Note / Clarification: Regarding his (peace and blessings be upon him) words "let him sprinkle water over him (fal-yashunna)", Ibn al-Athir says: "That is, let him sprinkle it over him in scattered splashes. 'Shann' means pouring intermittently, and 'sann' means pouring continuously."
Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari (5723) and Muslim [(2209) (79)] recorded it from the hadith of Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), and in a wording with both of them there is "fa-bruduha" (cool it) in place of "fa-atfi'uha" (extinguish it). Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari (3263) and Muslim (2210) recorded it in a similar way from the hadith of A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her). Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari (3262) and Muslim (2212) recorded it from the hadith of Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him). Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari (5724) and Muslim (2211) recorded it from the hadith of Asma' bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her).
