Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (2) This hadith is "munkar" with this wording (siyaq). Its narrators are trustworthy except al-Hakim's shaykh, about whom there has been criticism, and the preponderant view is that he is saduq (truthful), as was explained under number (2354).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): However, there is disagreement over Hisham bin Urwah regarding its text, and all its chains are subject to some criticism except the narration of Hammad bin Usamah from Hisham bin Urwah. The wording of Hammad's narration will be mentioned below.
Reference / Source: This hadith has already appeared through another route from A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) under number (6886).
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Imam Ahmad (40/ 24380), al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (23/ 295), Ibn Adi in "al-Kamil" (4/ 195), and Abu Nu'aym in "al-Tibb al-Nabawi" (58) and "al-Hilyah" (2/ 50) through the route of Abd Allah bin Mu'awiyah al-Zubayri, from Hisham bin Urwah, from his father Urwah, in similar form. In it: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to fall ill towards the end of his life, and delegations of the Arabs would come to him from every direction and prescribe remedies for him, and I used to treat him with them; that is how (I learned medicine)."
Grading: Abd Allah al-Zubayri is a weak narrator (see "Lisan al-Mizan" 5/ 17).
Reference / Source: It was recorded by al-Ajurri in "al-Shari'ah" (1898, 1899) and Abu Nu'aym in "al-Tibb" (57) through various routes from Abu Usamah Hammad bin Usamah, from Hisham, from his father, from A'ishah. In it: "When I fell ill, something would be prescribed for me; when someone else fell ill, something would be prescribed for him and he would benefit; so I would hear people prescribing for one another and I would memorise it."
Grading: Its chain is sahih, and this, if Allah wills, is the correct version; it does not mention the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Reference / Source: Abu Nu'aym recorded it in "al-Tibb" (60) through the route of Isma'il bin Ayyash, from Hisham bin Urwah, with the wording: "When a person of my household fell ill, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would prescribe for him, and I would retain it and then prescribe it for people."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Here the one prescribing the treatment has been made the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Isma'il bin Ayyash's narrations from the people of Madinah contain confusion (takhlit), and this is one of them.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani (23/ 294) recorded it in abridged form through the route of Abu Mu'awiyah Muhammad bin Khazim, from Hisham, from his father, who said: "I have not seen any woman more knowledgeable in medicine, jurisprudence or poetry than A'ishah."
Grading: Its narrators are trustworthy except al-Tabarani's shaykh Bakr bin Sahl, whom al-Nasa'i called weak; al-Khalili said: "There is some reservation about him (fihi nazar)", and al-Dhahabi said in "al-Mizan": "He is of middling condition (muqarib al-hal)."
Reference / Source: Abu Nu'aym recorded it in "al-Hilyah" (2/ 49-50) through the route of Ali bin Mushir, from Hisham bin Urwah, from his father, who said: "I have not seen anyone among the people more knowledgeable of the Qur'an, the laws of inheritance, the lawful and the unlawful, poetry, the history of the Arabs and genealogy than A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her)." Medicine is not mentioned in it.
