حدثنا أبو علي الحافظ، أخبرنا محمد بن الحسن بن قُتيبة، حدثنا محمد ابن هاشم، حدثنا سُوَيد بن عبد العزيز، حدثني عيسى بن عبد الرحمن قال: سمعت زِرَّ بن حُبيش يحدِّث عن صفوان بن عسَّال المُرادي قال: قالوا: يا رسولَ الله، أنتداوَى؟ قال: "تَعَلَّمُنَّ (1) أنَّ الله تعالى لم يُنزِلْ داءً إلَّا أنزلَ له دواء غير داءً واحد" قالوا: وما هو؟ قال: "الهَرَمُ" (2).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Safwan bin Assal al-Muradi (may Allah be pleased with him); he said that the people said: O Messenger of Allah, shall we seek medical treatment? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Know that Allah Almighty has not sent down any disease without also sending down its medicine, except for one disease." They said: What is it? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Al-haram: old age."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Note / Clarification: (1) Manuscript (Z) has the word "ta'allamahunna".
(2) صحيح لغيره، وهذا إسناد ضعيف من أجل سويد بن عبد العزيز: وهو ابن نمير السلمي مولاهم. عيسي بن عبد الرحمن. هو ابن أبي ليلى الكوفي.
Grading: (2) This hadith is sahih li-ghayrihi, but this chain is weak because of Suwayd bin Abd al-Aziz (who is Ibn Numayr al-Sulami, their client).
Identification of the narrator: Isa bin Abd al-Rahman is Ibn Abi Layla al-Kufi.
وأخرجه الطبراني في "الكبير" (7395) من طريق إسحاق بن عبد الله بن أبي فروة، عن عيسى ابن عبد الرحمن بن أبي ليلى بهذا الإسناد وابن أبي فروة متروك لا يفرح به. ويشهد له حديث ابن مسعود السالف برقمي (7611) و (7612).
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani recorded it in "al-Kabir" (7395) through the route of Ishaq bin Abd Allah bin Abi Farwah, from Isa bin Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla, with this chain.
Grading: Ibn Abi Farwah is matruk (abandoned), and his narration is of no value. However, the earlier hadiths of Ibn Mas'ud, numbers (7611) and (7612), are supporting reports (shawahid) for it.
