Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7602

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Usamah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: We came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to visit him while he was ill. We found him resting, and he had covered his blessed face with an Adeni cloak. He (peace and blessings be upon him) uncovered his face and then said: "May Allah Almighty curse the Jews; they declare the fat of sheep forbidden (for themselves), yet (sell it and) consume its price."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (3) This hadith is sahih li-ghayrihi, and this chain is "hasan" because of Kulthum al-Khuza'i.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): A group narrated from him (Kulthum), and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat". There is disagreement about his father's name and whether he is one person or two, and some counted him among the Companions. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar graded him trustworthy in "al-Taqrib".
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ibn Sa'd in "al-Tabaqat" (2/ 212), Ibn Abi Shaybah in "al-Musnad" (167), Ya'qub bin Shaybah in "Musnad Umar" (p. 49), al-Harith bin Abi Usamah (433 - Bughyat al-Bahith), al-Bazzar in "al-Musnad" (2608), Abu Tahir al-Mukhallis in "al-Mukhallisiyyat" (391), Abu Nu'aym in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (771) and al-Diya' al-Maqdisi in "al-Mukhtarah" (4/ 1352-1354).
Reference / Source: Ya'qub bin Shaybah also recorded it (p. 50) through the route of Ammar bin Ruzayq, from al-A'mash, with this chain.
Reference / Source: Abu Nu'aym (772) recorded it through the route of Yahya bin Abd al-Hamid al-Himmani, from Qays bin al-Rabi', from Jami' bin Shaddad.
Grading: Yahya al-Himmani is a weak narrator.
Details of the narration: Ubayd Allah bin Musa also narrated it from Shayban, from al-A'mash, from Habib bin Abi Thabit, from Ibn Abbas, from Umar, as marfu'. It was recorded by Ibn Abi Shaybah in "al-Musnad" (as stated in "Ithaf al-Maharah" 2864/1), Ya'qub bin Shaybah (pp. 47-48) and Abu Ya'la ("al-Ithaf" 2/2864) through the route of Ubayd Allah bin Musa.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ya'qub bin Shaybah indicated that Shayban is alone in narrating it from al-A'mash, unlike the hadith of Usamah, in which Ammar bin Ruzayq corroborated him in narrating from al-A'mash.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is supported (as a shahid) by the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) in al-Bukhari (2224) and Muslim (1583).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And also by the hadith of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) in al-Bukhari (2223) and Muslim (1582).
