It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah al-Bahili (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day must never wear silk or gold."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
Note / Clarification: (2) The text between the square brackets has dropped out of the manuscripts; we have restored it from al-Dhahabi's "al-Talkhis".
Grading: (3) Its chain is sahih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Amr bin al-Harith is "al-Ansari al-Misri", and Sulayman bin Abd al-Rahman is "al-Dimashqi al-Kabir". Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ahmad (36/ 22248) from Harun bin Ma'ruf, from Abd Allah bin Wahb, with this chain. Reference / Source: Ahmad (22249) also recorded it through the route of Ibn Lahi'ah, from Sulayman bin Abd al-Rahman, with this chain.
