فأخبرنَاه عبد الله بن الحسين القاضي بمَرْو، حدّثنا الحارث بن أبي أسامة، حدّثنا رَوْح بن عُبادة، حدّثنا ابن جُريج، عن حبيب بن أبي ثابت، عن عاصم بن ضَمْرة، عن عليٍّ قال: قال النبيّ ﷺ: "لا تُبْرِزْ فَخذَيْكَ، ولا تَنظُرْ إِلى فَخِذِ حَيٍّ ولا مَيتٍ" (1). وأمّا حديثُ عبد الله بن عباس ﵁:

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not expose your thighs, and do not look at the thigh of anyone, living or dead."

(1) حسن لغيره، وهذا إسناد ضعيف لانقطاعه، فحبيب بن أبي ثابت لم يسمع من عاصم بن ضمرة شيئًا فيما قاله الأئمة، وابن جريج - وهو عبد الملك - قال أبو حاتم الرازيّ: لم يسمعه من حبيب، وأيّده الحافظ ابن حجر في "التلخيص الحبير"، انظر تفصيل ذلك في تعليقنا على "مسند أحمد" (1249).
Grading: (1) This narration is "hasan li-ghayrihi" (sound due to other reports), but this chain is da'if (weak) because it is munqati' (broken).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): According to the statements of the imams (of hadith), Habib bin Abi Thabit heard nothing from 'Asim bin Damrah. And about Ibn Jurayj (who is Abd al-Malik) Abu Hatim al-Razi said: "He did not hear it from Habib", and al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar supported this in "al-Talkhis al-Habir". وأخرجه ابن ماجه (1460) عن بشر بن آدم، عن روح بن عبادة، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ibn Majah (1460) recorded it from Bishr bin Adam, from Rawh bin 'Ubadah, with this chain.
وأخرجه أبو داود (3140) و (4015) من طريق حجاج بن محمد، وعبد الله بن أحمد في زوائده على "المسند" (2/ 1249) من طريق يزيد البيسريّ، كلاهما عن ابن جريج، به، لكن وقع في رواية حجاج عن ابن جريج: أُخبرت عن حبيب، وفي رواية يزيد عنه: أخبرني حبيب.
Reference / Source: And Abu Dawud (3140, 4015) recorded it via Hajjaj bin Muhammad, and Abd Allah bin Ahmad in his additions (zawa'id) to "al-Musnad" (2/ 1249) via Yazid al-Baysari; both of them narrate it from Ibn Jurayj, with this chain.
Details of the narration: However, in Hajjaj's narration from Ibn Jurayj the words are: "I was informed from Habib", whereas in Yazid's narration from him the words are: "Habib informed me".
