Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) This hadith is sahih,
Technical note / Defect ('illah): but it is established as sahih as a narration of 'Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him), because in this chain Abu Hazim bin Dinar made an error and made it a hadith of Mu'adh, whereas the correct position is that Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated a different report; this is made clear by the following narrations that the author (al-Hakim) brought after this hadith. Moreover, there is disagreement about whether Abu Idris al-Khawlani (whose name is 'A'idh Allah bin 'Abdullah) heard from Mu'adh bin Jabal. Imam Abu Hatim (as reported in his son's book "al-Marasil") said: the scholars differ over his hearing, and in my view he did not hear from Mu'adh. Imam al-Daraqutni agreed with him in "al-'Ilal" (986) and cited with a chain this statement of Abu Idris: "I missed Mu'adh, and I was informed about him." Abu Zur'ah al-Dimashqi said that Abu Idris narrates from Abu Muslim al-Khawlani and narrates from 'Abd al-Rahman bin Ghanm al-Ash'ari, and both of them narrate this hadith from Mu'adh. However, Ibn 'Abd al-Barr considers his hearing from Mu'adh to be sound, because the chains for that are sahih.

Reference / Source: This narration is in "al-Muwatta'" 2/ 953 - 954, and via its route it was narrated by Imam Ahmad in 36/ (22030) and Ibn Hibban in (575). See the rest of its takhrij in "al-Musnad".
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Imam Malik was corroborated by Sa'id bin 'Abd al-Rahman al-Jumahi, who narrated it from Abu Hazim, from Muhammad bin al-Munkadir, from Abu Idris. Thus he added Muhammad bin al-Munkadir between Abu Hazim and Abu Idris. It was narrated by Ibn Abi Hatim in "al-'Ilal" (1830). Also, Muhammad bin Qays corroborated it from Abu Idris,
Technical note / Defect ('illah): but the chain leading to him contains Abu Ma'shar al-Sindi, and he is da'if (weak). It was narrated by Ahmad in (22131).

Grading: (1) This hadith is sahih,
Technical note / Defect ('illah): this is a chain whose narrators are thiqat (trustworthy), although there is disagreement about whether Abu Idris al-Khawlani heard from Mu'adh, as we explained under the previous narration. As for his narration from 'Ubadah (bin al-Samit) which is at the end of the hadith, it is sahih.
Note / Clarification: Ibn Halbas is Yunus bin Maysarah al-Jublani.
