Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7469

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty (through the blessing of joining ties of kinship) prolongs the life of a people and increases their wealth, even though, since Allah created them, He has not looked at them (because of their disobedience) with anything but displeasure." The Companions said: "O Messenger of Allah! How can that be?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Because of their joining their ties of kinship."
Imam al-Hakim says: Imran bin Abi Imran al-Ramli is one of the ascetics and devoted worshippers of the Muslims; if he has accurately preserved this hadith from Abu Khalid al-Ahmar, then it is gharib (singular) and sahih (authentic).

Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In manuscript (Z) this word is corrupted into "al-Basri".

Technical note / Defect ('illah): It appears like this in the manuscripts, but al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar indicated in "Lisan al-Mizan" (6/ 177) that it is a corruption and the correct form is "'Imran Abu Musa"; he then cited as evidence that al-Tabarani and others narrated it and said in it: "'Imran bin Harun".

Grading: This narration is "hasan li-ghayrihi" (hasan due to supporting reports), and this chain is "hasan" for the purposes of corroborating chains and supporting reports.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): About the narrator 'Imran bin Harun, Abu Zur'ah said he is "saduq" (truthful), while Ibn Yunus said he is "layyin" (soft, i.e. somewhat weak).
Reference / Source: It was narrated by al-Tabarani in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (12556), Tammam in his "al-Fawa'id" (1764), Abu Nu'aym in "al-Hilyah" (4/ 331), al-Bayhaqi in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (7596) and al-Diya' al-Maqdisi in "al-Mukhtarah" (11/ 70), via various routes from 'Imran bin Harun, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by al-Bayhaqi (7597) via the route of Abu Nashit Muhammad bin Harun from Abu Khalid, with this same chain.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: This is a good mutaba'ah (corroboration) for 'Imran bin Harun's narration from Abu Khalid al-Ahmar, provided that this narration is mahfuz (preserved).
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ibn 'Adi in "al-Kamil" (1/ 298 and 4/ 323), Abu al-Shaykh in "Dhikr al-Aqran" (398), al-Isma'ili in his "Mu'jam" (18) and Tammam (369), via the route of 'Ubaydullah bin al-Walid al-Wassafi, from 'Ata' bin Abi Rabah, from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), as marfu': "When the people of a household maintain ties of kinship with one another, Allah causes provision to flow to them, and they are under Allah's protection."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): 'Ubaydullah bin al-Walid (who is in the chain) is da'if (weak).
Reference / Source: It was narrated by al-Khatib in "Tarikh Baghdad" (2/ 266) and Ibn 'Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" (36/ 243) via the route of 'Abd al-Samad bin 'Ali bin 'Abdullah bin 'Abbas, from his father, from his grandfather, as marfu': "Indeed, righteousness and maintaining ties of kinship lengthen lifespans, make homes flourish and increase wealth, even if the people are wicked."
Grading: Its chain can possibly be graded hasan.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is a marfu' narration from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) in Musnad Ahmad (42/ 25259), with the wording: "And maintaining ties of kinship, good character and good neighbourliness make homes flourish and increase lifespans."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Its chain has weakness, and it also has a hidden defect that was not pointed out there; see "'Ilal al-Daraqutni" (3580).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Similar to the hadith of 'A'ishah is the hadith of Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) in Ibn Hibban (440), and it is hasan on account of supporting reports.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) there is a narration in al-Tabarani's "al-Awsat" (1092); its chain contains "Abu al-Dahma' Muhammad bin 'Abdullah al-Basri", whom al-Nufayli declared thiqah (trustworthy) but Abu Hatim called "munkar al-hadith". And from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) there is a narration in Abu al-Qasim Qawwam al-Sunnah's "al-Targhib wa al-Tarhib" (453), which contains "'Ismah bin Muhammad bin Fadalah", who is matruk (abandoned) and no worth is attached to his narration (i.e. it is of no value at all).
