أخبرنا أبو عمرو عثمان بن أحمد بن السَّمّاك ببغداد، حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن محمد بن منصور الحارثي، حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد القَطَّان، عن عوف. وأخبرنا الحسن بن يعقوب العدل، حدثنا يحيى بن أبي طالب، حدثنا عبد الوهاب بن عطاء، أخبرنا عَوف بن أبي جَميلة، عن زُرَارة بن أَوفى، عن عبد الله بن سَلَام، قال: لمَّا قَدِمَ رسولُ الله ﷺ جَفَل (2) الناس إليه، وقيل: قَدِمَ رسولُ الله ﷺ، فجئتُ في الناس لأنظرَ إليه، فلما استبَنَتُ وجهَ رسول الله ﷺ، عرفتُ أن وجهَه ليس بوجه كذّاب، فكان أولَ شيء تكلَّم به أن قال: "يا أيُّها الناسُ، أَفشُوا السلامَ، وأطعِمُوا الطعامَ، وصِلُّوا الأرحامَ، وصَلُّوا والناسُ نِيامٌ، تَدخلُوا الجنَّة بسَلَام" (3).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived (in Madinah), the people rushed towards him, and it was said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has arrived. I too went with the people to see him (peace and blessings be upon him). When I looked carefully at the blessed face of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I recognised that this face could not be the face of a liar. The very first thing he (peace and blessings be upon him) said was: "O people! Spread the greeting of peace, feed others, maintain ties of kinship, and pray at night while people are asleep; you will enter Paradise in peace."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(2) تحرَّف في النسخ الخطية إلى: جعل. وجَفَل: أسرع.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this word has been corrupted into "ja'ala", whereas the correct word is "jafala", which means: he hastened.
(3) إسناده صحيح. وسلف الحديث برقم (4329) وتكلمنا هناك على سماع زرارة بن اوفى من عبد الله بن سلام.
Grading: Its chain is sahih.

وأخرجه أحمد 39/ (23784)، وابن ماجه (1334)، والترمذي (2485) من طريق يحيى بن سعيد القطان، بهذا الإسناد. وقال الترمذي: حديث صحيح
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (39/ 23784), Ibn Majah (1334) and al-Tirmidhi (2485) recorded it by way of Yahya bin Sa'id al-Qattan, with this chain.
Grading: Imam al-Tirmidhi said: It is a sahih hadith.
