أخبرنا أبو محمد عبد الله بن جعفر بن دَرَستوَيهِ الفارسي، حدثنا أبو يوسف يعقوب بن سفيان، حدثنا أبو توبة الربيع بن نافع الحلبي، حدثنا محمد بن المهاجر، عن العباس بن سالم، عن أبي سلَّام (1)، عن أبي أُمامة، عن عمرو بن عَبَسة قال: أتيتُ رسولَ الله ﷺ في أول ما بُعِث وهو بمكة، وهو حينئذٍ مُستخفٍ، فقلتُ: ما أنت؟ قال: "أنا نبيٌّ" قلت: وما النبيُّ؟ قال: "رسولُ الله" قلتُ: بما أرسلَك؟ قال: "بأن يُعبَدَ اللهُ، وتُكسَرَ الأوثانُ، وتُوصَلَ الأرحامُ بالبِرِّ والصِّلَة" (2).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amr bin Abasah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in Makkah in the early period of his prophethood, while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was in hiding (from the polytheists). I asked: Who are you? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I am a Prophet." I asked: What is meant by a Prophet? He said: "The Messenger of Allah." I asked: With what has Allah sent you? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That Allah alone be worshipped, that idols be broken, and that relatives be treated with kindness and ties of kinship be maintained."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

(1) تحرَّف في النسخ الخطية إلى: أبي سالم.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts there is a textual corruption (error) here, and "Abu Salim" is written in place of "Salim".
(2) إسناده صحيح، وهو قطعة من الحديث السالف برقم (593) بالإسناد نفسه.
Grading: Its chain is sahih, and it is a part of the earlier hadith number (593), which has already passed with this same chain.
