It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever, on hearing the muezzin, says: 'I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, alone, without partner, and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and Messenger; I am pleased with Allah as Lord, with Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) as Prophet, and with Islam as religion,' his sins are forgiven."
This hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Reference / Source: Ahmad 3/(1565), Muslim (386), Abu Dawud (525), al-Tirmidhi (210), al-Nasa'i (1655, 9818) and Ibn Hibban (1693) recorded it through Qutaybah bin Sa'id.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): With them the name appears as "Hukaym bin Abd Allah bin Qays", and the diminutive form (Hukaym) is what is well known for his name.
Important point: Al-Hakim's listing of this hadith as an addition (istidrak) is an oversight (dhuhul) on his part, since it is already found with the two shaykhs.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (1565), Muslim (386) and Ibn Majah (721) recorded it by two routes through al-Layth bin Sa'd.
