Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7375

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the dining cloth was lifted from before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) would supplicate: 'Al-hamdu lillahi hamdan kathiran tayyiban mubarakan fihi, ghayra muwadda'in wa la mustaghnan 'anhu, rabbana' (All praise is for Allah, praise that is abundant, pure and blessed, which can neither be bidden farewell nor ever be done without, O our Lord!).

Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (3849) narrated it through the route of Musaddad bin Musarhad, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: This report has already passed through the route of Yahya al-Qattan under hadith no. 1956, where we mentioned its complete takhrij.
Note / Clarification: See also the discussion before it.
Note / Clarification: The word "مُودَّع" (with a doubled dal carrying a fathah) means: asking of Allah and desiring what is with Him is never abandoned.
Note / Clarification: In his words "ربُّنا", the word "Rabb" takes the raf' (dammah) on the basis that it is the predicate of an omitted subject, i.e. "هو ربنا" (He is our Lord), or else it is itself a subject whose predicate comes before it. The nasb (fathah) is also permissible, as praise or as a vocative, and the jarr (kasrah) can also come as a substitute (badal) for the pronoun in "عنه" or for the noun "الحمد لله". For further detail see "Fath al-Bari", commentary on hadith no. (5459).
