Alqamah bin Abdullah al-Muzani narrates from his father that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When one of you buys meat, let him make plenty of broth with it, for if someone cannot get a piece of meat, he will at least get broth, and it (the broth) is also one of the two kinds of meat (that is, a substitute for meat)."
This hadith has an authentic (sahih) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this word has been corrupted into "Mada'".
Note / Clarification: The manuscripts have "fa-akthar", but what we have recorded in the text is taken from "Talkhis al-Dhahabi", and this agrees with the other source works.
Grading: Its chain is weak. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam al-Bukhari said, in "'Ilal al-Tirmidhi", that Muhammad bin Fadda' is weak and his father Fadda' is "majhul" (unknown), and that the hadith he narrated from 'Alqamah bin 'Abd Allah al-Muzani is known from 'Alqamah only through this route. Reference / Source: It was recorded by Imam al-Tirmidhi in his "al-Jami'" (1832) and "al-'Ilal al-Kabir" (568) via Muhammad bin 'Umar al-Muqaddami from Muslim bin Ibrahim, with this same chain. Important point: Imam al-Tirmidhi said in "al-Jami'" that this hadith is gharib and that we know it only in this way, from the narration of Muhammad bin Fadda', and that Muhammad bin Fadda' is an interpreter of dreams (al-mu'abbir), whom Sulayman bin Harb criticised. General principle: There is no need for this weak narration, because Imam Muslim (2625) and others narrated a sahih hadith from Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: my close friend (peace and blessings be upon him) advised me: "When you cook broth, add more water to it, then look to the households of your neighbours and give them some of it in a kindly manner".
