It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Keep company only with a believer, and let none eat your food except a God-fearing person."
This hadith has an authentic (sahih) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In our manuscripts this word has suffered a misspelling (tashif, a scribal error) and become "Husam".

Grading: Its chain is "hasan".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Regarding the narrator Salim bin Ghaylan, the position of the majority is that there is "no harm in him" (la ba'sa bihi), while Imam al-Daraqutni declared him "matruk" (abandoned) (but the view of the majority takes precedence).
Note / Clarification: A group of narrators narrated from al-Walid bin Qays; Imam al-'Ijli called him "thiqah" (trustworthy), and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in his book "al-Thiqat".
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Imam Ahmad 17/(11337) through the route of Abu 'Abd al-Rahman 'Abd Allah bin Yazid al-Muqri', from Haywah bin Shurayh, from Salim bin Ghaylan, from al-Walid bin Qays, that he heard Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) (or heard it via Abu al-Haytham).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This doubt on the part of Salim bin Ghaylan (whether there is an intermediary or not) is not harmful, because Abu al-Haytham (Sulayman bin 'Amr al-Misri) is himself "thiqah" (trustworthy).
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Abu Dawud (4832), al-Tirmidhi (2395) and Ibn Hibban (554, 555) through the route of Ibn al-Mubarak, and by Ibn Hibban (560) through the route of Ibn Wahb; both transmit it from Haywah bin Shurayh with this same chain.
Note / Clarification: The mentioned doubt is present with all of them except Ibn Hibban. Imam al-Tirmidhi called it "hasan" and said that we know it only through this route.
