Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7343

It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Mustawrid bin Shaddad (may Allah be pleased with him) that he stated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever eats even a single morsel at the expense of a Muslim (by violating his honour or harming him), Allah will feed him a morsel of the fire of Hell on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever uses a Muslim to attain a position of fame and renown (that is, makes him a means of his own acclaim), Allah will make him stand in a (disgraceful) position of fame and showing off on the Day of Resurrection. And whoever wears a garment at the expense of a Muslim (by harming him), Allah will clothe him in a garment of fire on the Day of Resurrection."
This hadith has an authentic (sahih) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is "hasan li-ghayrihi" on the basis of other supporting reports.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The present chain is "da'if" (weak), because Ibn Jurayj ('Abd al-Malik bin 'Abd al-'Aziz) is a "mudallis", and we did not find an explicit statement of his hearing from Sulayman bin Musa (al-Ashdaq).
Note / Clarification: Abu 'Asim refers to al-Dahhak bin Makhlad al-Nabil.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Imam Ahmad 29/(18011) through the route of Rawh bin 'Ubadah from Ibn Jurayj, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Imam Abu Dawud (4881) through the route of Baqiyyah bin al-Walid, who transmits from Ibn Thawban, from his father, from Makhul, from Waqqas bin Rabi'ah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is weakness in Baqiyyah bin al-Walid; moreover, he is a "mudallis", and here he narrated with "'an" ('an'anah) instead of explicitly stating his hearing.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: One shahid (supporting report) for it is the "mursal" narration of Imam al-Hasan al-Basri, which is found in Ibn al-Mubarak's "al-Zuhd" (707), Ma'mar's "al-Jami'" (21000) and Ibn Abi al-Dunya's "al-Samt" (272), and it is a "sahih mursal".
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Another shahid is from the hadith of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), which is in Hannad bin al-Sari's "al-Zuhd" (1217), but its chain is weak.
