Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7302

It is narrated from Sayyidah Asma' bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that whenever she prepared tharid, she would cover it until its steam (intense heat) had gone. She would say: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "This brings greater blessing."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Muslim as a supporting narration (shahid), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it. And it has a detailed supporting narration, as follows:

Explanation & Benefits

Grading: This is a "hasan" hadith.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Because of Qurrah bin Abd al-Rahman, this chain is hasan in the light of corroborating chains and supporting reports; moreover, Qurrah has corroboration, and all the remaining narrators of the chain are thiqah (trustworthy). Ibn Wahb refers to the well-known hadith scholar Abdullah bin Wahb.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ibn Hibban (5207) through the route of Abu al-Tahir Ahmad bin al-Sarh from Ibn Wahb. Ahmad (44/26959) narrated it through the route of Qutaybah bin Sa'id and Abdullah bin al-Mubarak, from Ibn Lahi'ah, from Uqayl bin Khalid, from al-Zuhri.
Important point: The narration of Ibn al-Mubarak from Ibn Lahi'ah is regarded by the specialists as "salih" (acceptable).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ahmad (26958) narrated it through the route of Hasan al-Ashyab as al-Zuhri from Asma', and "Urwah" is not mentioned between al-Zuhri and Asma'.
Note / Clarification: The editor of Musnad Ahmad, relying on al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar's "Atraf al-Musnad", inserted the name of Urwah into the chain, but the correct view is to keep it omitted, as in the original manuscripts of the Musnad and in al-Haythami's "Ghayat al-Maqsad". Al-Haythami stated explicitly in "Majma' al-Zawa'id" (5/19) that of Ahmad's two chains, one is "munqati'" (broken).
Details of the narration: Several other hadiths have also been reported on this topic, but all of them are "da'if" (weak); among them are the narrations of Juwayriyah (al-Tabarani 24/172), Abu Hurayrah (Ibn Majah 4150, and al-Tabarani in al-Awsat 6209 and 7012), Suhayb (al-Bayhaqi in al-Shu'ab 5516), Khawlah (also al-Bayhaqi 5517) and Jabir (may Allah be pleased with them).
Grading: It is established with an authentic chain from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) as "mawquf" (his own statement): "Food should not be eaten until its steam has gone". (al-Bayhaqi, al-Sunan 7/280).
Reference / Source: Ahmad (17426) narrated with a "hasan" chain from Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked drinking "hamim" (i.e. very hot water).
Note / Clarification: The word "fawrah" refers to the intense heat, boiling and warmth of food or water.
