It is narrated from the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), that when anyone from the household of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) fell ill or was afflicted with fever and weakness, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would order "hasa'" (a gruel or broth) to be prepared, then he would say that the sick person should sip from it. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: "Indeed, it strengthens the heart of the grieving and removes (distress) from the heart of the sick, just as one of you women removes dirt from her face with water."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts available to us the word "al-saqim" is written, but the correct text here is that found in the author's (al-Hakim's) repeated narration, number (7642), and this also agrees with the other source references.
Grading: Its chain has "lin" (softness, i.e. slight weakness). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Only her son Muhammad narrates from the mother of Muhammad bin al-Sa'ib (infirad). Note / Clarification: However, this hadith is established as "sahih" from the Mother of the Believers Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) with different wording, as will be detailed further on. Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ahmad (40/24035), Ibn Majah (3445), al-Tirmidhi (2039) and al-Nasa'i (7529) through the route of Isma'il Ibn Ulayyah (Isma'il bin Ibrahim) with this same chain. Grading: Al-Tirmidhi declared this narration "hasan sahih". (7642). Note / Clarification: This narration will be recorded again by the author at number (7642). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: In place of the above weak narration, the hadith suffices which Ahmad (41/24512), al-Bukhari (5417) and (5689), Muslim (2216) and al-Tirmidhi (after 2039) narrated as marfu' through the route of Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri, from Urwah bin al-Zubayr, from Aishah: "Indeed, talbinah soothes the heart of the sick person and removes some of the grief". Note / Clarification: Linguistically "yartu" means: to give strength to something and make it firm. Note / Clarification: The sense of "yasru" is: to lift grief away, to uncover it and remove it. General principle: "Al-talbinah" is a particular kind of porridge or thin broth prepared from flour and the like, and sometimes honey is also added to it. It is called talbinah, by association with "laban" (milk), because of its whiteness and thinness.
