Grading: Its chain is sahih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): This narration is reported with doubt as to whether the narrator is Abd al-Rahman bin Ka'b or his brother Abdullah bin Ka'b, but this doubt does not harm the chain, since both brothers are trustworthy (thiqah) Successors. Abu Usamah refers to Hammad bin Usamah, and Abd al-Rahman refers to Ibn Sa'd al-Makhzumi al-Madani. Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ahmad (25/15764 and 45/27167), Muslim (2032), Abu Dawud (3848) and Ibn Hibban (5251) through routes from Hisham bin Urwah with this same chain. Note / Clarification: Since it is in Sahih Muslim, al-Hakim's bringing it in the "Mustadrak" is an oversight on his part. Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ahmad (27169) and Muslim (2032/132) through the route of Abdullah bin Numayr, from Hisham bin Urwah, from Abd al-Rahman bin Sa'd, from the sons of Ka'b bin Malik (Abd al-Rahman or Abdullah), via their father.
