Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7295

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that of all foods, the most beloved to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was "tharid" (bread soaked in broth).
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it. Indeed, the narrator named Umar bin Sa'id is the brother of Sufyan and al-Mubarak, the sons of Sa'id. As for the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "The superiority of Aishah over women is like the superiority of tharid over all other food," it is recorded in the two Sahihs.

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is weak.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In al-Hakim's chain an unnamed (unknown) man from Basra has dropped out between Umar bin Sa'id and Ikrimah, and for this reason Abu Dawud declared it weak in his "Sunan". As for al-Hadrami Muhammad bin Shuja', his condition is not clear, and he is corroborated here.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ibn Sa'd in "al-Tabaqat" (1/338) from Sa'id bin Sulayman, and by Abu Dawud (3783), and through his route al-Bayhaqi in "al-Shu'ab" (5513) and "al-Adab" (417), via Muhammad bin Hassan al-Samti. Both of them narrate it from al-Mubarak bin Sa'id, from Umar bin Sa'id, via an (unnamed) man from Basra, from Ikrimah.

Reference / Source: As a supporting report for the original text, it was narrated by al-Bukhari (3770) and Muslim (2446) from the hadith of Anas, and by al-Bukhari (3411) and Muslim (2431) from the hadith of Abu Musa al-Ash'ari.
Reference / Source: This narration has already passed with the author (al-Hakim) at number (6626) as the hadith of Qurrah bin Iyas al-Muzani.
