It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when my father was martyred (at the Battle of Uhud), he left a debt upon me. Then he mentioned the long hadith, in which it says that (Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said): I said to my wife: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) will come to us today at midday. Take care! Do not cause the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) any kind of trouble, and do not talk to him (while he is busy or resting). The narrator said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) came, and I spread out a bed and a pillow for him (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) laid down his blessed head and rested. I said to a slave of mine: Slaughter this young goat, which is a well-fed house-reared one, and be quick; finish the work before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wakes up, and I am with you. So we kept at the work until we had finished before he (peace and blessings be upon him) woke from his sleep. I said to the slave: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wakes up, he will ask for water for ablution, and I fear that once he finishes ablution he may leave, so place this meat before him before he finishes his ablution. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) woke up, he said: "O Jabir! Bring me water for ablution." He (peace and blessings be upon him) had not yet finished his ablution when I presented the meat before him (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at me and said: "It seems you have come to know of our liking and love for meat. Call Abu Bakr to me." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) also called those companions of his (his disciples) who were with him (peace and blessings be upon him). They all came in, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stretched out his blessed hand and said: "Eat in the name of Allah (saying Bismillah)." So they all ate until they were full, and a good deal of meat was left over. Then the narrator mentioned the rest of the hadith.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
