Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7263

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I prepared some food and brought it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was sitting, and I placed it before him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What is this?" I said: It is a gift. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his blessed hand (on it) and said to his Companions: "Eat with the name of Allah (saying Bismillah)."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Grading: The hadith is sahih, and this chain is "hasan".
Note / Clarification: Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj and Ibn Ma'in gave the name of Abu Qurrah al-Kindi as "Salamah bin Mu'awiyah bin Wahb bin Qays bin Hujr", and Imam al-Mizzi in "Tahdhib al-Kamal" (in the biography of his son Amr) and Imam al-Dhahabi in "Tarikh al-Islam" (2/900) stated this definitively, and mentioned a group of narrators who reported from him. However, Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat" without a name, and likewise Abu Ahmad al-Hakim mentioned him in "al-Kuna" among those whose names are not known; al-Hafiz Ibn Hajr followed them in "Ta'jil al-Manfa'ah" and considered the "Abu Qurrah" who narrates from Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) to be a different person from the aforementioned "Salamah bin Mu'awiyah".
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (39/23712) narrated it at length by way of Abu Kamil Muzaffar bin Mudrik, and Ibn Hibban (7124) by way of Abdullah bin Raja'; both of them transmit it from Isra'il with this same chain.
Reference / Source: It has passed earlier under number (1114) as a narration of Ibn Abbas from Salman (may Allah be pleased with him).
