Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7248

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever pleases a ruler at the cost of the displeasure of his Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, has left the religion of Allah." Allaq bin Abi Muslim is alone in narrating this, and all the narrators up to him are trustworthy (thiqah).
Here the Book of Rulings (Kitab al-Ahkam) is complete.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "da'if jiddan" (extremely weak).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Concerning Ghassan bin Malik, Abu Hatim said that he is not strong and that objectionable material (nakarah) is evident in his hadith. Anbasah bin Abd al-Rahman is an "accused" narrator, and Anbasah is alone in narrating from his teacher "Allaq"; al-Azdi called him "dhahib al-hadith" (his hadith is worthless), al-Dhahabi called him "wahin" (very feeble) in "al-Kashif", and Ibn Hajr declared him "majhul" (unknown).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): It is also said that his name is Abd al-Malik bin Allaq, as al-Hafiz al-Mizzi indicated in "al-Tahdhib"; Imam al-Tirmidhi called him "majhul", and al-Azdi declared him "matruk al-hadith".
Reference / Source: Abu Nu'aym narrated it in "Tarikh Asbahan" (2/348) by way of Ibrahim bin al-Walid, from Ghassan bin Malik, with this same chain.
